each child

At Sherman Early Childhood Center, we believe that each child is a capable and unique individual. Our program provides learning and positive social interaction opportunities for all children through a quality, inclusive and developmentally appropriate program. We nurture children and families in a safe and supportive community. Our program strives to meet the individual needs of each and every child and encourages them to explore their environment through meaningful, relevant and hands-on experiences.

childThe ECC’s curriculum is influenced by the Reggio Emilia Approach, as well as other progressive educational philosophies.  The North American Reggio Emilia Alliance identifies the key component of the Reggio approach as a systemic focus on symbolic representation of ideas.  Children explore and express their understanding through symbolic “languages” such as drawing, gesture, building, dramatic play, and emerging writing.

Through this array of developmentally appropriate approaches, children develop language, cognitive, social-emotional and physical skills. In addition, our children develop spirituality and an intense feeling of pride in their Jewish heritage, as they observe and participate in Jewish customs and holiday observances. As early childhood professionals, we aim to give each child the opportunity to learn, develop and play to their fullest potential.
